Affordable Care Act in 2022

The Affordable Care is an income-based health insurance exchange program designed to provide affordable health insurance. Fourteen states have their own state health insurance exchange These states will assist you with your tax credits. California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Massachusetts, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington.

Other states rely on healthcare.gov (the Federal Government) to assist their residents with their tax credits. For the most part Affordable Care Act Plans are HMO Networks (Health Maintenance Organization) and a few may offer POS (Point of Service) networks.

Tax Credits

Some people, based on income, can receive a tax credit that reduces their health insurance premiums by a small percentage, potentially down to zero. Some may receive a cost sharing reduction (reducing their financial liabilities) for deductibles and out of pocket maximum. The out-of-pocket limit for a Marketplace plan can not be more than $8,700 for an individual and $17,400 for a family annually.

Do Affordable Care Plans Work for RVers?

Affordable Care Plans are state-based networks generally mapped out by county. You must stay in-network, and select a primary physician. In most instances you can not seek services outside of your county except for a medical emergency as defined by the health insurance company.

For RVers, the network shortfalls of the Affordable Care Act health insurance can cause stress, especially if you are a physically active RVer or a sportsman. When you purchase health insurance it needs to work for you, wherever you are.
